While we like to think that we offer lots of information on the website about the different power requirements, motors sizes, pulling power, gearing, controller sizes and voltages we realise that it can be a lot to take in and, especially if it's your first build, a lot to try and memorise, in particular whilst selecting products and keeping track of what goes with what.
As such we quite often get asked three seemingly simple questions, "What do I need? What do you recommend? What other options are there?". Unfortunately whilst they are simple questions there are lots of answers.
I have made a list below, inlcuding prices, based on pulling capability showing what you need to do this, what we recommend you have to do this and any other options available to you for this setup.
Please note all these options are assuming normally no more than 1in50-60 uphill, nothing less than 20-25' radius curves and a top speed of roughly 7-8mph. Also be aware that weight is a factor, even using the equipment described below if your loco does not have enough traction it won't have the adhesion to do the work.
